Carpenter Library Wants
You to sign up for a Library Card
NH entrepreneur Robert Finlay
has challenged the state’s libraries to increase the number
of people who are library patrons. The NH library that adds
the most new patrons by October 31, 2008 will receive
$25,000.00. Both the total number of new patrons, and the
percentage possible based on the population of the town, are
considered so that towns of different sizes can compete in
the challenge. Please visit the library, or sign up for a
card Here. Then you can use the library to get free books,
magazines, movies and audio books.

Senior Residents
Call-In Program
The phone rings at the fire
station at a certain time in the morning and we all say,
“It’s Mrs. ‘Smith’” and sure enough, it is. We enjoy
talking with her and it’s always a pleasant start to our
day. If we haven’t heard from her, we ask one another if she
has called.
Later in the day, the crew
returns to the station from a request for emergency service
and sees that it’s time to call ‘Mr. Jones.’ We find that
he is doing well and we chat for a few minutes about how our
day is going. We have developed a fondness for “our”
seniors and look forward to our daily conversations.
The Pittsfield Fire and
Rescue Service would like to remind our senior residents
that we welcome you to be a part of our daily call-in
program to check on your well-being. If you are a senior or
disabled resident who would like to be contacted daily to
check in, please give us a call to make arrangements. We
will talk about what works best for you – you may chose to
call us daily at a particular time of day or you may prefer
that we contact you. Either way, if we do not hear from
you, we will check on your welfare and see how you are. If
you choose, you may provide us with the name and phone
number of a family member or friend to be contacted on your
behalf if needed.
Please call us at 435-6807 or
stop by the fire station at 33 Catamount Road to be included
in the Senior Residents Call-In Program.
Audio Books at the
Carpenter Library
Are you interested in free
Audio books? Are you going to be driving a long distance
“over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s
house” for Thanksgiving? A good book will add enjoyment to
your journey!
Due the generosity of Globe
Firefighter Suits the Carpenter Library has joined the NH
downloadable audio book program. Through this new statewide
system Pittsfield library card holders can select from over
900 available books for download to their personal
computer. New books will be added to the selection on a
regular basis. Once a book has been downloaded to your
computer the book can be moved to a portable MP3 player, and
many of the books can be burned to CD’s, or you can listen
to the book through your computer. The Internet website for
the selection of books is
http://nh.lib.overdrive.com, or
you can use the link at the
Carpenter
Library portion of the Town of
Pittsfield website. Before you can download a book you will
need to get a personal access number. You can get your
number, along with some download instructions by visiting
the library, or give us a call (435-8406) or send an email (carplib@metrocast.net).
Permit to Kindle Fire
Please be informed that it is
necessary to obtain a Permit to Kindle a Fire for burning
brush, cooking fires, or for seasonal campfires.
Please stop by the station at
33 Catamount Road or call 435-6807 for the availability of
an issuing agent and for burning conditions.
A Permit to Kindle a Fire is
required by law to operate a chimney.
