Carpenter Library Services

Books

Books for all ages and interests!

Interlibrary Loan

Any patron in good standing may request material that we do not own through our Interlibrary  Loan Service (ILL).   This service, through the New Hampshire State Library, allows us to search throughout the state for material and to borrow it for our patrons.  There is a certain amount of lead time necessary for this service, but most requests are filled within two weeks.

Large Print

The Carpenter Library provides a limited selection of large print books.  A couple of new titles are added each month. Additional titles may be ordered upon request through ILL (see above).

Audio Books

The library owns a collection of audio books.  In addition we have a rotating stock of audio books through our membership in the Suncook  Interlibrary Cooperative (SILC).  Fresh titles come to us every three months.  All audio books circulate for three weeks.

Due the generosity of Globe Firefighter Suits, the Carpenter Library has joined the NH downloadable audio book program.  Through this statewide system Pittsfield library card holders can select from over 2000 available books for download to their personal computer.   New books are added each week.  Once a book has been downloaded to your computer, the book can be moved to a portable MP3 player, and many of the books can be burned to CD’s, or you can listen to the book through your computer.  The website for the selection of books is http://nh.lib.overdrive.com. Before you can download a book you will need to get a personal access number.  You can get your number, along with some download instructions by visiting the library, or give us a call (435-8406) or send an email.

Movies

The library owns a collection of movies and has a rotating stock through the Cooperative as above.  Movies range from pre-school interest level through school-age movies to regular adult movies.  We have a small assortment of self-help movies as well.  Movies circulate for one week, and patrons must be 18 years old to borrow movies.

Movies From NetFlix

The library is a member of NetFlix. Patrons can request one movie at a time. NetFlix movies cannot be renewed, and must have been released for 6 months or more.

Magazines

The Carpenter Library subscribes to about 20 general interest magazines.  Because of limited space we do not archive magazines.

Computers

The library has available to the public computers for word processing and for Internet research.  Computers should be reserved in advance if you know that you will need one at a certain time or date. The circulation desk librarian is the gatekeeper for the library computers, and if you are asked to get off a computer, you must do so or lose future computer privileges. In addition, wireless Internet service is available. Printing from the library computers is charged at 15 cents a page.

Photocopier

The library provides a black and white photocopier for public use.  Copies may be run at 15 cents for one-sided copies, and 30 cents for two-sided or legal size copies.   Pay at the circulation desk when you are finished.
