The Website Committee would love to hear your comments and suggestions about the new site. To leave us a comment, click here or use the link on the top-right side of any page.

Pittsfield is a small rural community of about 4,500 residents, located in Merrimack County, nestled in the Suncook Valley. Pittsfield is known for it's beautiful landscape, farm land, country setting and the well-known Hot Air Balloon Festival that takes place every August.

The downtown area of Pittsfield offers a high school, elementary school, library, grocery stores, banks, restaurants, auto repair shops, gas station, doctor's office, dentist office, post office, drug store, a hardware store, and other small businesses that make Pittsfield a great place to live and work. Everything in the downtown area is within walking distance.

Use the links on the left to find town government and department information as well as local news and events.

If you are new to the area, or considering moving to Pittsfield, see our Resources for New Residents.

A Little Bit of History...

Founded in 1768 by John Cram, initially Pittsfield was a collection of farms with several small centers of activity:  The Lower City, Upper City, South Pittsfield, Knowltons Corners and the Berry District.  Each of these places had a number of homes and some combination of stores, churches, schools and mills.  Within a few decades, the "Lower City" along the Suncook River became the dominant political, social and industrial center of activity in Pittsfield.  The town of Pittsfield New Hampshire was incorporated on March 22, 1782 and its first meeting house erected in 1789....
